Pudolla pants are the bench for a day that starts at a desk and ends on a ridge. The golf pants are the dressiest: a flat front, a belt loop waist in inches, a stretch shell that looks like a chino and dries like a sports shirt. The cargo and tactical pairs add thigh pockets and a tougher shell the maker calls water resistant or waterproof. The hiking and travel pairs sit between the two, lighter and looser, with an elastic waist on some.

A few pairs are fleece-lined for cold weather, and the women's line here is the cargo capri, a 5-pocket pair cut just below the knee. Every page prints the waist and, where the maker gives it, the inseam, so the number on the label is the number you compare with a pair you own.

How to pick the size

Golf and cargo pairs are sized by waist and inseam in inches, like a pair of jeans, and run true. The hiking and travel pairs with an elastic waist use letter sizes and run a little loose. A pair you plan to belt over a base layer in winter wants one waist size up.

What it does not do. The maker's water resistant is a shower, not a river. Nothing on this bench is insulated unless the page says fleece-lined.
